Leave Tangier for the Rif Mountains and spend the late morning wandering the blue streets of Chefchaouen. After lunch, continue south through the hills of the Ouazzane region to Fes, arriving in the evening at your riad in the medina.
Cross the Middle Atlas via Ifrane, the 'Switzerland of Morocco', and the cedar forest of Azrou with its Barbary macaques. After lunch in Midelt, descend through the Ziz Valley and its endless palm groves to Merzouga, where camels take you over the dunes to your camp for dinner and a night under the stars.
Wake up early for sunrise over the dunes and ride back to Merzouga for breakfast. Visit the market town of Rissani, cradle of the Alaouite dynasty, then walk in the Todra Gorge near Tinghir before reaching the Dades Valley and its rock formations for the night.
Follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through the Valley of Roses and the palm oasis of Skoura to Ouarzazate. Visit the UNESCO ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, have lunch with a view and cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Tichka pass to Marrakech.
